If you have ever waited 20 minutes on hold just to request a refill, been dismissed at the counter, or felt like a number instead of a patient — you are not alone. We hear this from new patients every week. The good news is that switching pharmacies takes about two minutes and you do not have to make a single phone call to your old pharmacy.
How prescription transfers work at Fenkell Rx
When you request a transfer to Fenkell Rx Pharmacy, we do all the work. You give us your name, date of birth, the medication name, and the name and phone number of your current pharmacy. We call them, request the transfer, and notify you when it is ready. Most transfers are completed same day.
You can start a transfer three ways: fill out the form at fenkellrxpharmacy.com/transfer, call us at (313) 519-5700, or walk in to 18360 Fenkell Ave, Detroit MI 48223. There is no fee. There is no paperwork on your end.
Can I transfer a controlled substance?
Partial transfers are allowed for controlled substances in Michigan — whatever remaining refills are on your prescription can be transferred. For Schedule II controlled substances (like Adderall or certain pain medications), a new prescription from your doctor is required rather than a transfer. Call us and we can walk you through the specifics for your medication.
Will my insurance still work after I transfer?
Yes. Your copay and coverage stay exactly the same — we are in-network with Medicare Part D, Medicaid, Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Healthcare, Aetna, Cigna, Humana, and most major plans. Your insurance follows your prescription, not your old pharmacy.
What happens to my refill history?
Your remaining refills transfer with the prescription. If you had 3 refills left at your old pharmacy, you will have 3 refills left here. Nothing is lost.
Why patients switch to Fenkell Rx
We are an independently owned pharmacy, which means the pharmacist who fills your prescription is also the one who answers the phone. There are no corporate scripts, no 45-minute hold queues, and no telling patients a medication is unavailable without actually trying to source it. We stock medications that major chains routinely run out of, and we offer free same-day delivery so you do not have to leave home if you cannot.
If you have been putting off switching because you thought it would be complicated — it is not. Start at fenkellrxpharmacy.com/transfer or call (313) 519-5700.
